RETREAT OVERVIEW

Come with us to the magical Himalayas and re-treat yourself. Retreat into the mountains and let yourself dive into days of inspiration, movement, amazing food, talks, hikess, the Garhwali culture and let your “to-do world” rest for a while. We begin and end our ten-day journey in Rishikesh – the magnet for spiritual seekers and also is a yoga capital of the world. It’s a great place to see the bright and bliss charm of the River Ganges and its silver sandy beaches.

In between we spend two days in Khola Village – a beautiful remote village of Garhwal Himalayas in a lush green valley. Then followed by one night in the scenic village of Sari and wrapping it up with two days of stay in the stunning Chopta valley of Great Himalayan mountains. To give you a little glimpse of a day; starting with morning movements and sounds inspired by yoga, voice expression (by Dymphi Peeters), natural movement and meditation. Then a home cooked breakfast in the beautiful nature. A hike to the village meeting the locals and encountering there day to day living lifestlye. Lunch at the camp and sometimes with the villagers in their homes. Workshop during the afternoon and evening meditation, food and campfire.

Your own voice has an enormous powerful effect on your own body and mind. We consist of 85% water. Our cells respond to sound. We respond strongly to intentions. You have probably noticed that music can change the state of your consciousness and mood. So imagine how powerful the influence of the sound of your own voice can be on your ownbody!

And this is not about beautiful singing. No! It is about sounding exactly as you feel them at that moment, possibly from parts of your body, such as your heart and belly and your back or sound from images, such as a flower or the ocean. It’s not sweet. Sometimes it is necessary to vomit sound. Sound is energy. Sometimes you have so much energy in your body that is not good for you that you have to vomit it out. And what a relief when that is over. Then more loving energy can be released and flowing again. Everything that you suppress costs energy.

Itinerary:

Day 01:  Arrive in Rishikesh

Transfer from Dehradun airport to Rishikesh  and check in to your hotel.  In the evening we will all meet for dinner and a Retreat Presentation of coming days.  Organize a massage schedule for Day 2.  Meditation.  Overnight stay in hotel.

Rishikesh

Ever since the Beatles rocked up at the Ashram of the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in the late ‘60s, Rishikesh has been a magnet for spiritual seekers. Today it styles itself as the ‘Yoga Capital of the World’, with dozens of ashrams and all kinds of yoga and meditation classes. Most of this action is north of the main town, where the exquisite setting on the fast-flowing River Ganges, surrounded by forested hills, is conducive to meditation and mind expansion. In the evening, an almost supernatural breeze blows down the valley, setting temple bells ringing as sadhus (spiritual men), pilgrims and tourists prepare for the nightly Ganga Aarti (a fire offering or ritual performed on the Ganges).

Day 02:  Explore the Area & Massage

After the morning session and breakfast we will organize walking tours of Rishikesh and to the Beatle’s Ashram. There will be time for shopping & lunch on your own.  Perhaps we go as a group to experience Ganga Aarti in late afternoon.  Group dinner and the evening to be spent at leisure. Overnight stay in hotel in Rishikesh.

 Day 03:  Drive from Rishikesh to Khola Village approx 4,5-5 hrs

After the morning session and breakfast we drive to the village of Khola (approx 5 hrs).  Enroute we stop to see the confluence of the rivers Alaknanda and Bhagirathi which forms The Mother Ganges. The drive is very scenic and displays the vast line of the Himalayan foothills. After approx. 3 hrs of drive, we get off the main highway and continue our drive to Khola village. The road to the village is a connecting road with much less traffic than the main highway, and it lessens until we reach Khola village.  Upon arrival feel easy to settle down in the homestay. Feel easy to take a walk in the surroundings of village and encounter the lifestyle of the Himalayan remote villages. Dinner and overnight stay at homestay.

Khola village

This village is a small settlement of perhaps 24 families located in a very remote and unexplored part of the Garhwal Himalayas.  Most of the inhabitants of the village depend on the resources of the village for their survival. The water resources in the valley are natural.  It’s a perfect place for meditation, yoga, nature walks, bird-watching and to experience outside silence and inside peace. The lush green forests of this region are home to an astounding multiplicity of flora and fauna.  A description of the charismatic beauty of this village would be incomplete without a mention of the people who inhabit this blessed village – simple, willing to help and hardworking.

 Day 04:  A village excursion, & Village-style Cooking Class 

After morning session and breakfast we do a day excursion in the village.  We discover the Himalayan village traditions and culture; how people still live the life in these higher valleys of the Himalayas with very limited resources.  We also visit the local school and interact with the kids by exchanging each other knowledge. Later we return back to homestay and have some cooking lesson in local Himalayan cuisine. The rest of the time to be spent in leisure.  Dinner, meditation and overnight stay in the homestay.

 

Day 05:  Drive to Sari Village

After breakfast we say goodbye to the village and board our vehicles and drive ~ 3,5 hrs to reach our next destination village Sari. On the way we visit the famous Omkareshwar temple which is the sacred temple of Lord Shiva. It’s believed that temple is approx. 3000 years old. Upon arrival in Sari we check in to your guest house.  Feel easy to walk and explore the little hamlet of Sari village. Talk to locals and share their amazing stories of their life in the Himalayan land. Dinner, meditation and overnight stay at guest house in Sari village.

Day 06: Hike to Lake Deoria tal (2438 mts, 8-9kms.)

After morning breakfast, we start our hike to the Lake Deoria Tal through dense forest of Rhododendron and lots of wild flowers and ferns. The hike takes approx 45 min to 1 hour to reach Deoria Tal Lake.  The hike is on a well paved stone path which makes the movement very easy to lake. The lake provide a stunning view of the Great Himalayan range with some peaks like Mount Chaukhambha, Kedarnath group of peaks, Shark Fin Wall, and many more. We walk around the lake and spend our day in the lap of Mother Nature. We enjoy our home cooked styled lunch in the surroundings of lake. Later we do return hike to village Sari and drive for next 30 min to reach divine valley of Chopta for overnight stay in glamping tents. Enjoy dinner and a campfire.  Time for a good sleep.

 

Deoria Tal (Lake)
This is a beautiful lake at an altitude of 2438 m. This lake has captivating surroundings with forests all around. On a very clear day the Lake bless the spectators with the reflections of the Chaukambha Group of Peaks on its crystal-clear water. The lake is situated admist lush green inclined field surrounded by lush green dense forest.

Day 07: Trek Chopta to Tungnath Temple & Chandrashila Peak & retrun trek to Chopta

After morning breakfast we trek to Tungnath with a packed lunch. Tungnath is situated at the height of 3680 mts above sea level, the highest Lord Shiva Shrine in India.  Enroute we will find lush green meadows and we can see the entire range of snow-capped Himalayas.  Upon arrival at Tungnath visit the temple.  After a rest we further trek 1 (steep) km to Chandrasila Peak, which has magnificent views of the Great Himalayas and of the highest peak of India:  Nanda Devi (7848 mts).  Celebrate reaching the top of Chandrasila (4000m) with lunch and relaxation.  Later trek back to Chopta for meditation, dinner and our final night under the stars in the Himalayas.

Tungnath is the highest Shiva temple in the world; one of five and the highest Panch Kedar temple located in the mountain range of Tungnath. The temple is believed to be 2000 years old and is the second in the pecking order of the Panch Kedars. Tungnath is reached by a path that wends through alpine meadows and rhododendron thickets, and is just 1 km below Chandrashila Peak with its panoramic views.

 

Day 08:  Drive Chopta to Shivpuri village (6.5 hrs) 

After a morning breakfast we drive back to Shivpuri village. We stop for lunch enroute. Upon arrival in Shivpuri village check into the glamping resort.  Stay in comfortable tents and enjoy the warm shower. If time permit we can go for a little walk on the silver sandy beach of the Ganges. Overnight stay in glamping tents in Shivpuri village.

Day 09:  White-water Rafting on the Ganges & shopping day

After morning breakfast we depart for a 2.5 hr rafting trip.  Enjoy a mighty ride on the white water of Mother Ganges.  After rafting we check into our hotel in Rishikesh. The rest of the day is to be spent as you wish.  A final group dinner, meditation and overnight stay in the hotel in Rishikesh.

Day 10:  Goodbye! Depart to your further destinations

A final morning class followed by breakfast.  With all the fresh energies and high spirits of the Himalayas, transfer to Dehradun airport for your flight home.  Retreat and trip ends.
